Keurig Platinum B70 Coffee Maker – Great Coffee Fast & Great Hot Water Dispenser

Filed under: Kitchen & Dining — admin @ 4:36 pm

I first was interested in a Keurig Platinum B70 Coffee Maker when another mom at cotilion was raving about hers. I thought, she’s crazy. But she was so enthusiastic about it that later I started thinking of how I have to wash my drip coffee maker’s filter cone and carafe every day and how it’s a waste of water. Also, I hated to measure out the grind & water so it’s never precise. I thought about the concept of a Keurig–basically measured pressurized hot water blasting through the K-Cup and dripping down into the mug. I wouldn’t have to measure out my coffee & water and, best of all, I wouldn’t have to wash the filter basket and carafe–just my mug. Plus, I can use my own coffee grind with the K-Cup adapter which was what sold my husband.

Everything I contemplated was true–except–I use my own coffee grind for normal weekdays, and NOT in the included K-Cup adapter (The ground was just too messy to clean up from the tiny K-Cup filter. I didn’t like the grinds going into the drain when I rinsed the filter.). I basically use the Keurig as a pre-measured hot water dispenser. I use my own manual coffee cone with an unbleached #2 paper cone filter, put in a scoop of grind, and put both the cone and mug under the Keurig to get a great cup of coffee. Plus, I use the premeasured water for tea bags, green tea powder, and decaf coffee. One warning, you have to refill the water chamber every other day or so if you drink 2-3 cups of hot beverage like I do. No big deal. Don’t know if it can be plumbed.

On Sunday mornings, I use a coffee K-Cup (Newman’s Bold) at the maximum setting (11 or 13 oz?) and drip it into a travel mug to take to church. Also very quick to do on rushed mornings. Usually, I am the only coffee drinker at home, now my husband is enjoying a special treat now & then. When I had a Christmas party, everyone was oohing and aawing at the Keurig–even the couple with a much fancier Dutch coffee maker.

Some special hints:

– Use only filtered water. We have a reverse osmosis system and a water softener so I have never had any problems with clogging.

– If possible, use a smaller No. 2 size coffee cone (see Melitta link below); it’ll fit better under the Keurig’s water stream. Unbleached paper filter cones are better than chemically bleached ones. The paper filter also helps to absorb the acid from the coffee. The new Melitta cones have an opening to add cream while brewing. You can also get porcelain cones but it’s heavier and prone to breakage from frequent use (hitting against sink, falling, etc).

– The kids love the apple cider K-Cups. It’s expensive (can’t buy in bulk) but it’s worth it. The reason I use my own grind is that the lowest price I can get my coffee K-Cups for is $0.33 each at Costco. To me that’s still more than what I want to spend. I know, I’m cheap. Or rather, I prefer to save money where I can and spend where I should.

– Save your coffee grinds from the paper cones and the K-Cups. When the grinds are dry, I scrap them out and use in the garden as fertilizer or dirt. Dump the grounds into the yard as often as you can, even if slightly damp they can get moldy in a container.

– Pour in your Half & Half while the coffee is still dripping so you don’t have to stir or wash a spoon (& waste water).

– Grind your coffee bean at the finest setting at Costco or Trader Joe to get the most flavor out of it, if you’re using a paper filter.

– Check the measurements of the machine to see if it will fit in your selected spot. It is quite tall and deep for a coffee maker.

Reviews of New Balance Men’s MR993 Running Shoe

Filed under: Shoes — admin @ 8:23 am

I still remember the first time I slipped on a pair of 991s, it felt like putting on a pair of socks – fantastic. That was a couple of decades ago and I have not purchased a different brand or style of running shoe since then.

I was a bit surprised when New Balance discontinued the foam cushining 991 and replaced it with the gel cushioned 992. It took a bit of getting used to but I made the transition to 992s. With the 992s also came the option to get several different colors of 992s: the 991s always only came in grey.

I was elated to learn though that the company had again upgraded to 993s which includes a combination of foam and gel. I think they’re lighter than 992s too and the feel on first putting on a pair of 993s is very similar to putting on a pair of 991s. They did keep the multiple color options of the 992 line so you can get these in black, grey, white.

Overall, I am extremely happy with this product.

Foremost on my loyalty is the commitment that the company has to local markets. The 993s are Made in the USA and in the back of each of these shoes you can see the prominent USA in bold against an American flag. They are a patriot’s shoe and they are quite popular in the military. Unlike other shoe companies that use almost slave child labor to make shoes and then sell them at horrendous profits in America, New Balance provides good jobs in the US. Yes they make less profit and they endorse fewer athletes but we buyers are loyal because:

a) its a fantastic product

b) probably the best running shoe made (don’t take my word, try one)

c) they’re made in the USA

d) the company is committed to local markets and to producing quality running shoes

No I don’t run many marathons anymore (but I have in the past) and I do love these shoes and once every couple of years when my old pair of 993s get relegated to the home repair shoe, I will go out and buy a shiny new pair of 993. It’s always just a little bit special when I put on a new pair….

Btw, my closet has a lineup from the two pairs of decade old beaten up old 991s that still come out when I do gardening to the 992s that have been recently demoted with the purchase of my 993s: Yes I still own my 991s, the go through the washer now and again and they still work even after 10 to 15 years (amazing quality)….but they can’t be seen in public anymore.

Anyhow, I hope this helps you make a decision on these shoes. It’s hard to find a running shoe that has history and character like this line and I’ll admit I’m a bit selfish here, the more popular 993s remain – the less likelihood that they’ll be discontinued before I die.

Pink Skinny Jeans – Latest Fashion Updates

Filed under: Fashion — admin @ 6:00 am

It is summer time, and like always it is the time when fashion is at its peak. All the girls and women want to stay updated with the latest fashion tips and trends so that they shop around according to that. Skinny jeans remain in fashion around the year, but this time light colored and especially pink skinny jeans have made their way through to the top of the fashion trends. These jeans are best suited with women who have slim and tall physique. <<Read about Gray Skinny Jeans>>

Following are some of the fashion tips, you should not forget when wearing skinny jeans of pink color:

Tops
It is a rule to wear tight t-shirts, vests, sweaters and blouses with skinny pants because loose and baggy shirts and tops would not look stylish and apt. Therefore, you strictly need to remember this rule! The second rule is that as it is summer time, you need to choose light colored tops with your pink jeans. Normally with pink, you can go for colors such as white, light pink and other such light colors because they would complement the best. T-shirts can be the most perfect choice to be paired with these jeans.

Shoes
Remember that the secret of looking perfect in skinny jeans lies in high heel shoes. Never ever wear flat shoes or boots with this style of jeans. Skinny pants are either paired with knee high boots or high heeled shoes, but as we are talking about summer wear so high heeled shoes would be better than knee high boots.

Accessories
It is very important to style up your looks with accessories. Both summers and winters have their own sets of accessories. During the summer, you can go for accessories such as sunshades, hats, purses and others.

Your sunshades should be BIG and black; this is the latest fashion trend coming all the way from the 70’s. Frame of your shades can be of any color that you like, however if you are a little too particular about everything than pink frames with pink skinny pants would look nothing less than perfect.

Your purse size depends on the occasion you are carrying it too. However, skinny jeans can be used for both formal and informal occasions so you can go for a large size handbag in any light color which complements the color of your jeans and the top.

Picking a hat in summers could be a good choice especially when you are off for shopping or some other outdoor activity. Cotton or straw hat in any light color would do.
